Google Buys Motorola Mobility

In a surprise move, Google announced a deal to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Google recently lost a bid to buy Nortel's patent portfolio, which went to a group of its competitors. This is most likely a defensive move, as Motorola has a substantial patent portfolio.
