The Microsoft Tag-enabled campaign was launched in Orlando, Florida in preparation for the 2012 elections. The goal of the campaign is to make voting more convenient and accessible to the public.

Deirdre Macnab, the League of Women Voters of Florida president, said, "In order for our government to work successfully, citizens need to exercise their right to vote. By helping every Florida voter to 'Be Ready to Vote,' we will help ensure a strong turnout of prepared and active voters."

It can be read by smart phones and other mobile devices using the built-in camera. The Microsoft Tag can easily be printed and displayed by any interested Supervisor of Election. Voters can use their smart phones to scan Microsoft Tag, which connects them to a mobile website of their county's Supervisor of Elections office where they can update their voter registration information. This service is free of charge for both voters and Supervisors, except for charges from the wireless carriers.

"With three elections on the calendar for 2012, Florida's 67 Supervisors of Elections encourage all voters to update their voter record, particularly address and name changes," said Bill Cowles, Orange County Supervisor of Elections. "This technology makes it easier for everyone to be ready to vote."

Voters can also scan a Microsoft Tag from the League of Women Voters of Florida which takes them to a Microsoft-created mobile site that shows them more ways to connect to their county, such as by email, by phone or in person.

Adam Shapiro, Microsoft Tag Business Development Manager, said "We're excited to work with the League of Women Voters of Florida and reach out to Florida Supervisors of Elections to use Tag in engaging with voters. Microsoft Tag makes the world around you clickable, and now with the scan of Tag, Floridians can make sure they are engaged in the political process."
