According to Cisco's official annoucement, the IoT Challenge is “a global, open competition aimed at recognizing, promoting and accelerating the adoption of breakthrough technologies that will contribute to the growth and evolution of the Internet of Things. The response was overwhelming with fantastic submissions.” A panel of Senior Cisco leaders will select six Finalists from the remaining field. Members of the judging panel will be revealed and Finalists will be announced on September 18. Finalists will attend the Internet of Things World Forum, an exclusive annual event that will be held in Chicago, October 14-16. There, three winners will be announced and share $250,000 in prize money intended to advance their leadership within the rapidly growing IoT industry.
Shaun Moore, Chui’s CEO and Co-Founder, expressed his gratitude stating, “My team and I are humbled to be among a cutting-edge group of Semi-Finalists. We cannot thank Cisco enough for this opportunity.” As for his plans going forward in the competition: “Our aim will be to showcase Chui's first product to market, an intelligent doorbell that uses facial recognition to make the front door a gateway to a connected home.” According to Moore, his team also plans to highlight Chui’s multi-generational functions that include “more efficient and secure access control, membership management, hotel check-in, school attendance, and customer service.”
