Intelligent Mail bar codes (IMb) are the symbols used to help sort and track mail through the USPS. Commercial printers that use IMb must meet certain requirements in order to qualify for automation prices such as address, readability, and other standards.
Over the past two years, the USPS has slowly been raising the threshold for mailers. Recently the USPS announced that 95% of commercial printers are meeting their requirements, and the bar code readability threshold will move up to 90%. Printers using IMb who are included in the 95% of successful verifications will receive the full service benefits such as address correction information and mail tracking.
